Review of How Christopher T. Twinkles Came To Be
A story that reinforces the importance of love, How Christopher T. Twinkles Came to Be by Davinna K. Wilberg and Mosetta Penick Phillips-Cermak, Ph.D. takes us to Planet Zora, where a miracle occurs after Missy Chrissy accidentally drops a crate containing a teddy bear. Her outburst of emotions leads to the teddy bear coming to life, and the debate arises about whether to destroy or preserve this new life. On the one hand, some believe it can be spy technology and are not convinced it is actually alive. On the other hand, Missy Chrissy is willing to lay down her life to protect her child, the teddy bear, and she manages to convince Zora's supreme leader of the need for a trial to determine the teddy's fate. Missy, accompanied by other characters, sets out on this adventure to Earth filled with uncertainty and danger, as there is no shortage of enemies that want to either destroy the teddy or reproduce it.
The story highlights the authors' wild level of imagination and creativity, as we are immersed in a universe of all kinds of beings, from Zoratrons and Montoids to Tricats, each with their distinctive features and cultures.
The book explores themes of friendship, love, and bravery, passing a significant message of embracing life and protecting innocent beings. There are also action scenes and humorous moments that keep the narrative entertaining and engaging for the reader.
Nevertheless, the story's pacing is one of the main issues with the book, as the authors favor a slow pace, including several details that the story could have done without. A good example of this involves narrating commercials within the story just before a breaking news is delivered. There is also further evidence of this in how the authors drag out the story.
Also, most of the characters lack any significant character development, and some of them do not add much to the story, especially one that must have tirelessly joked about strangling others over twenty times.
Inconsistencies in the story were also an issue for me. For example, “The Mighty Tricat,” who at times felt like an easy solution to get the main characters out of any difficult situation, had a code of not interfering in conflicts involving the same species, but he would break this code without any explanation at some point.
I rate this book three out of five stars. While it was creative, professionally edited, and included an important message, several aspects could have been better executed, as I mentioned earlier, influencing my rating. Considering the kind of story, the language used, and the book's length, it will appeal mostly to young adults who enjoy science fiction.
