What starts as a simple journey of curiosity soon spirals into a full-blown adventure where he meets legendary figures who have made or marred history. “Tarquin Jenkins and the Book of Dreams” is a well-crafted book that is engaging, entertaining, and educational with a humorous edge. One great concept well explored in this book is the humor; it never feels heavy-handed or overwhelming. Instead, it is cleverly sprinkled throughout, making the book an easy and enjoyable read. Tarquin realizes time travel is real and dangerously complicated from his encounter with unexpected dangers and challenges along the way. Despite his willingness to get history back on track and stop those who seek to alter it, he comes to understand that history has a way of repeating itself, and changing it entirely is no easy task.

To say the least, I love everything about this book. First is the development of the characters. Peter did an amazing job making each character shine through in Tarquin’s adventure. For example, Jeremiah Cavendish, a lock keeper and wormhole guardian, serves as a beacon of wisdom and warmth for Tarquin, mentoring and guiding him through their time travel journey. However, my favorite character is Georgia Blade, a space pirate, as she always steals and commands attention whenever she appears. All of these characters, including Uncle Jules, make “Tarquin Jenkins and the Book of Dreams” an unpredictable and entertaining one.

The book has a very long list of characters, and as mentioned above, all are well-developed rather than being left as mere plot devices. However, at some points, it gets a little confusing, especially when Jeremiah calls Tarquin “Seebee.” I found myself momentarily lost at times, but this did not take away from how much I enjoyed reading this book. I truly appreciate the impeccable world-building by the author, so it’s safe to say I didn’t find anything to dislike in the book.

The book is well edited; I found just one typographical error, likely due to the ancient English that is used in certain parts. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars rating because of its well-structured plot and the way the author made the 17th century come alive with clear details. The book’s blend of sci-fi and history is a genre I have always enjoyed reading. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy time travel and adventure with a beautiful splash of comic relief.
