This novel, Breksta’s Academy by Natasha Quay, is set in a dystopian world and follows the life of Breksta Vilkas. I found this book to be very well written and love how it captures the genuine emotions of the characters. The reader first sees Breksta Vilkas as a young girl with her mother, Asteria Vilkas. Asteria is shown as a fugitive who is being hunted by soldiers. Breksta faces many new fears early on, being exposed to extreme hardship. At the Academy, she quickly finds herself an outcast among the rest of her peers until one individual takes pity on her. From then on, Hestia and Breksta become best friends and are inseparable. The novel focuses on Breksta’s desire to find her true self and leads her to be the only one to save the world.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I always find myself reading young adult books, especially if they involve fantasy elements. The book was beautifully written, capturing each character’s personality and conflicts. One of my favorite parts about reading this book was seeing how Breksta and Hestia’s relationship became stronger as time passed. They bonded over being true to themselves and overcame many roadblocks that were in their way. I also enjoy the book's third-person point-of-view. Most books I read are in the first person, but I enjoyed this version more. I believe the development of the minor characters would not have been as impactful if the story had been written any other way. The author tastefully transitions between the characters to show their thought process and develops each character more.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Out of the entire book, I only found one single error, which I was very impressed with. I gave this book a perfect rating because I believe this book was well-thought-out and professionally edited. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian novels with a slight fantasy twist. I also recommend this book to anyone who likes reading books about coming-of-age themes and can see this as they follow Breksta’s story.
