I can confidently state that Music to My Ears by Heidi M. Simone is the best novel I’ve read so far this year. It’s an appealing story that, once you start, you won’t be able to put down. As a literature student, I was highly excited by the neat plot she crafted. To be honest, I was expecting at least one mistake in the plot structure, but it turned out to be professionally flawless.

There were several cliffhangers that kept my attention and made me want to skip sleep just to find out how everything would be resolved and what would happen next. I believe this is one of the strongest aspects of the story.

In addition, the story is loosely based on sirens of Greek mythology. Although there are many works inspired by mythology, not many of them successfully pull off the concept or include such delicate, well-researched details. The story is about a young girl who begins to act abnormally whenever she is near water. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that she is a descendant of the sirens—female, humanlike beings with alluring voices that no one can resist. Things get even more exciting when she discovers that her partner's father is the head of the siren hunters. The rest of the story revolves around how she will overcome all these obstacles.

Another strong point, in my opinion, is all the small, thoughtful elements added to the story. For example, how Sofia wanted to adopt a pet and ended up getting a singing bird with whom she exchanged specific whistles, or the dolphin that could talk to her—or even hear her thoughts. All of this made me wonder: what if Disney decided to turn this story into an animated film? If they did, I’d be sitting in the front row to watch it!

There’s something else I’d love to mention: I couldn’t find a single typo or spelling mistake in the entire book, which is remarkable. Then again, considering the author’s biography and knowing that she’s a professional book reviewer, it makes sense that her work would be polished to such a high standard.
I honestly couldn’t find anything to dislike—every element felt purposeful and well executed.
In conclusion, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was flawless and perfect, both in terms of language and content.

Altogether, reading this book truly thrilled me. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for it to be officially published so I can buy copies for my friends and gift it to them to enjoy as well.
