The Witch of Endor by RK Wheeler is essentially a romance that chronicles the strange life of Lilith, who grew up talking to the dead. Naturally, she didn't realise this, not until her parents asked her whom she was talking to. It was "the magic that came later when she reached puberty". Soon, a man with a troubled past came into her life with even more magic and palm reading. While she was in love, her days were troubled with doubts. Why did she never see him during the day? He always had a good excuse. Will she find out his darkest secrets, and follow him into the eternal night?

The Witch of Endor is essentially a beautifully wrought book with a careful narrative and the perfect read if you are a lover of romance. The allusions in this book are stunning and will blow your mind and the Biblical connections are absolutely brilliant. I was quite surprised when I reached a certain point. No spoilers. You can find out for yourself.

When it comes to the characterization, the author certainly doesn't disappoint. The characters in this book are with loaded pasts and shaded presents. These are strong characters with their own baggage. The author hasn't created abject caricatures that make no sense, but realistic characters that one will tend to remember.

Another important aspect of this book is the setting. The book is mainly set in the night, which is very typical of books like this. It makes it quite romantic. Due to the "vampish" element of the characters, and the idea that Lilith seems to only talk to the dead, it only makes sense that she only wakes during the night.

What's in a name?
One thing that I noticed was the name of the protagonist. In Biblical mythology, Lilith connotes the first wife of Adam. Lilith was a woman of agency. In fact, she was banished from the kingdom of God for being too headstrong. It is interesting to note that here too, she is given certain power in the narrative.

You write quite a captivating review, 420waystoreachthesun. It's not my favorite genre but you make it sound interesting, the Biblical mythology and all. Great review!
