Up in the clouds on Mount Olympus there is a competition brewing. Teens from all over New York have received a mysterious invitation that reads, “You’re cordially invited…” However, only a select few can see the rest of the invitation. After doing something extremely daring, that they wouldn’t normally do, and finding themselves in the land of the Gods do the challengers realize how dangerous things are about to get.

Hope Diaz, a senior in high school, is wondering how much worse life can get. Her mother is suffering from dementia and it’s quickly getting worse as each day goes by. After diving into a river to save a strange boy she finds herself brought to Mount Olympus for a competition. The prize for winning? Not only is the victor crowned as the God’s hero/heroine, but they are also granted one wish!! For Hope that is the chance to cure her mother before she descends into madness and doesn’t remember her daughter anymore. She quickly finds that everything she thought was just mythology is true, and that the Gods are not as amazing as they seemed at first. With the help of 2 unlikely friends, Hope uncovers powers she never knew she had. As well as finding herself falling for Hades’ son, a broody God that has never been around humans and is learning what it’s like to love and care for others. Will this romance help or hinder her during the competition?

Even though this book is classified as Young Adult, I thoroughly enjoyed Olympian Challenger by Astrid Arditi. It has a wonderful storyline and held my attention throughout the entire book. For the younger readers that choose to enjoy it, I believe they might have a difficult time reading or pronouncing the different names of the gods/divinities. Other than that, I recommend it to anyone that loves a great Urban Fantasy story.

Because of how easily the story flowed, kept my interest, and the attention to detail I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars. As this book was very well edited I was easily able to get lost in the world the author created.

As this is Book One in a series, I cannot wait to find the next book and find out what is next for Hope on her Olympian journey!! I will also be on the lookout for more books written by Astrid Arditi.
