Do you think Tris made the right faction choice?

Discuss the June 2014 book of the month Divergent by Veronica Roth. While only Divergent--the first book of the series--is the book of the month, feel free to use this subforum to discuss the rest of the series or to talk about the movies, but make sure not to post spoilers unless noted in the topic title.

I feel Tris made the right decision. If she had stayed with the farming faction Abnegation, she would have hated every single day of her existence. Instead, with Dauntless, she gets to explore her true self!

I think she made the right choice. If she had stayed with Abnegation she would have to repress part of her personality.

Yes. She absolutely did. Dauntless is where she belongs to. And her intiation changed her to a great extent. It shaped how she would go on to think and behave ahead in the series.

I think it changes her tremendously. She is more timid in her previous faction, although she would step out of the box occasionally and do something that her faction considers unexpected or not right. I think her faction choice was an interesting one, but not necessarily a bad choice. This faction challenges her and gives her the freedom she has wanted for so long. Her choice made her stronger, and she was able to meet so many new people along the way. It would have been sad for me to leave my family, but I think she was courageous to chase after what she wanted and what she felt was right.

Scott wrote: 03 Jun 2014, 19:05 The following discussion question was included in some copies of the June book of the month, Divergent by Veronica Roth.

How does initiation change and transform Tris? Do you think she made the right faction choice? How do you think she might have changed if she had chosen one of the other factions?
For one, I think Tris would have done more as an Erudite. Even then it doesn't matter what faction she picked what matters is that she became a part of something bigger and uncovered the lies of the institution.

She also made some great friends at dauntless even though at first I felt it was not suited for her.

Tris did make the right choice. She choose the faction that allowed her to experiment a lot of things and allowed her to be her better self.

Yes, it felt like as long as she was in Abnegation, she would have been living for her parents and not herself. Which is no way to live. She would have excelled in whichever faction she chose. But dauntless was so perfect for her spirit.
I'm here for a good time, not a long time. Yolo!

*Changes Tris completely, because now she is free to be what she truly can be.
* Yes, to be able to do and achieve everything she was destined for was the perfect faction for her.
*In any other faction she would have had to hide forever.

I do think she made the right choice. This faction made her stronger physically and mentally, and it also gave her lifelong friends as well as a love interest she could literally fight the world with.

I also think that choosing Dauntless actually provided her with the opportunity to learn everything that helped her win against Jeanine and her evil plans.

I think she made the right choice but I often wonder how the story would have played out if she'd chosen Erudite.

Yes, tris choosing dauntless sharpened her senses and made her powerful. She could protect herself and her loved ones with fighting skills.

I do think she made the right choice. It was the faction where her heart was. It obviously wasn't with Abnegation. I think she would have been bored at Erudite and always itching for the activity and adventure that she got in Dauntless.
