Official Review: Save Earth
Save Earth by Ashwika Bandaru and Tharun Bejawada is a brief middle-grade book about the solar system and the need to protect Earth from pollution, climate change, and depletion of resources. The book is presented in a straightforward yet entertaining style that young readers will enjoy.
The story’s protagonist is a nine-year-old girl whose mother is a scientist. The girl wonders why scientists see the need to send exploratory equipment to other planets. The girl’s mother explains that scientists are looking for new worlds where people can live in the future because we may run out of resources on Earth. The mother then provides descriptions of each of the other planets in the solar system, explaining why they can’t support human life. The girl makes a pledge to do her part in protecting Earth so it can continue supporting life and encourages readers to do the same.
This book was beautifully written in simple, easy-to-understand language, but it does not talk down to its young audience. The protagonist is an ordinary, curious child whom young readers can relate to. There is a picture of each planet presented with clear descriptions. Kids will learn just enough about the planets to be able to identify each one, and some kids may find themselves wanting to learn more about the solar system as a result of reading this book. The book offers kids a chance to feel involved with taking part in protecting Earth for future generations.
There is nothing that I disliked about Save Earth. I believe the book was professionally edited. I only found a couple of minor errors in the text. The writing style is very clear and flows well.
I give Save Earth four out of four stars. I would primarily recommend this book for elementary school students who already know how to read, although parents could certainly read it to younger children. Older kids are likely to already know the basic facts about the planets and would probably prefer a book that goes a bit further in-depth about the subject than this one does.
