Building confidence requires grit and effort. It is especially important to help children find their feet and believe in themselves. When Longneck Learned to Love by Jennifer DiMarco relates Longneck's dilemma.

Longneck had the desire to write a story and make it known to others. However, he had mountain-like fears that stood in the way of his dreams. He would lay in the open and think about how he was not good enough. His mother offered numerous words of encouragement, but it seemed Longneck would not budge. He would envy the stars and the moon. One day, a turning point came when he found the much-needed help.

I had an interesting time reading through this book. The storyline was simple and quite entertaining. There were no complex plots or twists in the stories. I love the powerful morals taught by this story. I particularly love the sterling example of Longneck's mother. She repeatedly made efforts to give her son the needed help. She is quite observant of her son's moods and feelings.

I love the simple, error-free narrative. Children will find this book easy to read and enjoy. My favorite feature of this book is the simple and expressive illustrations in the book. Although they were in black and white, they were well drawn and conveyed Longneck's mood at different stages of the story. The illustrator, Maxwell DiMarco, did an excellent job.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was exceptionally well edited. I have no dislikes about it. Confidence is a vital trait for children to develop. It can be the deciding factor in attaining great heights later in life. Children between the ages of 4 to 9 years can learn much about the value of believing in oneself and confidently pursuing one's dreams.

Confidence is so vital in children. This is an aspect i still struggle with at my age. I would fully want my children to read this book when I have even one. I wouldn't want them ending up like me. Congratulations on the detailed review.
