Bichon the Brave is a children’s book written by Jimmie A. Vincent. It is the first book in a four book series called “The Helping Hounds.” This book deals with childhood anxiety. It helps children to know it’s okay to be nervous and to talk about anxiety. It shows there is help for anxiety too.

Bichon the Brave is not as excited about the carnival as all his friends are. They’re looking forward to the food, rides, and games, but Bichon is nervous. His friends are worried about him. They want to help him to feel better so they encourage him to talk to the counselor. They are happy when he agrees to do so.

The book would be an excellent one for elementary-aged children with anxiety. Younger children in general would enjoy the story. I feel parents would also enjoy reading it to their younger children. It wouldn’t be suited for older youth, as it would be below their reading skill level.

Bichon the Brave is the perfect book for young children with anxiety. The author explains what anxiety is in a way a child could understand it. He does a good job at making it known there is help and support as well. I think the book is cute and the use of dogs to help tell the story keeps a child’s attention. I also liked how the dogs knew they wanted to help their friend, but knew they needed someone with more experience to truly help him. The pictures also go well with the story and help it to come alive. The book is well-written. I didn’t find anything to dislike about it.

I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars. It appears to be professionally edited and contains no errors. The author does an excellent job at making it known it’s okay to have anxiety. The book is written in a style that younger children can understand and relate to. I’d like to read the other books in the series to see what all they cover as well. Overall, the author has written an exceptional book about a topic many could appreciate.

A book that teaches children how to deal with anxiety early enough is a treasure. Every child should read this.

Anxiety is a normal physiological response, but when it becomes excessive, we should definitely seek help. I am glad the author is teaching children this truth. Thanks for the review.
