Review of Going For A Walk With Papa
It's always very essential to keep children informed about their roots and explain to them the importance of the family unit and how expedient it is to love each member of the family. In Going for a Walk with Papa, Kenneth Francis, in one of his fondest times with his granddaughters after his retirement, inculcated the idea of family in his granddaughters, Ella and Addison. In one of the many times they spent together, he came up with the idea that they make a drawing of a tree. Ella was absent due to the fact that she was sleepy, but Addison followed through with the process of making the drawing with Papa. He named the tree 'The Ella and Addison's family tree'. Instead of leaves and apples, they decided the branches of the tree would contain names of special people they know and love. The exercise has quite a few lessons embedded in it. Find out what those lessons are.
What was most intriguing about Going for a Walk with Papa was the relationship Papa had with his granddaughters, Ella and Addison. He spent quality time with them, which undoubtedly granted him the opportunity to pass on great family values and the wisdom of the older generation to them. Papa is obviously very family oriented, and he tried to pass the same value to his granddaughters. He passed the message by allowing Addison to mention the names of special people she loves, which were family members, to be added to the branches of the tree.
I love that the diction of the book is suitable for the demographic it's meant for. The use of pictures in the book is also a good one. It provides readers with practical images of what is being described. There are lots of lessons in this book, but I will leave the readers to discover that for themselves.
There was no part of Going for a Walk with Papa that I disliked. It was a great read subtly embellished with a good number of moral lessons children will definitely benefit immensely from. I also found no error in it; it was undoubtedly exceptionally well edited.
I rate this book four out of four stars because away from the fact that it will entertain children, it will also educate them on the essential things in life.
Going for a Walk with Papa by Kenneth Francis is recommended to children between the ages of five and thirteen as they will learn a whole lot from its pages.
