Review of Little Alice Circus Diva
Little Alice Circus Diva by Anthony Zaza is a children's picture book that tells the adventures of a girl named Alice. Feeling the weight of her father's expectations on her shoulders, Alice decides to run away. Alice soon finds himself inside a forest with lots of strange animals. What sort of adventure awaits Alice?
What I like the most about this book is its simplicity. It follows a simple and linear narrative, perfect for a young reader with a short attention span. This book has plenty of pictures and original illustrations that are sure to delight one's eyes. I also like how the story conveys a sweet message about self-determination and forging one's own path. It gives the impression that, with sheer will and determination, pursuing your dreams and finding your heart's joy are possible.
However, I'm quite disappointed with a lot of things about this book, mostly involving its formal aspects. For one, the book does not shy away from providing colorful images that aid one's imagination. However, I felt like many of these pictures were scattered all over the pages, giving the impression that not much thought went into deciding which picture to add or which to omit.
The storytelling also felt inadequate. In some paragraphs, it felt like the author was rushing to tell some scenes when they could've been elaborated some more. As a result, the narrative failed to give a sense of cohesiveness. The text has poor editing because of the errors, so I highly suggest the author consult a professional editor in order to correct these mistakes.
Sadly, I can only give this book a rating of 2 out of 5 stars. There are plenty of issues with the formatting and the storytelling that this book still needs to work on. It's such a shame because the story has potential. I like the message it tries to convey through a simple and sweet plotline. I can only recommend this book to very young readers who won't mind the formatting errors that much. I still feel like this book will give them entertainment, despite the issues mentioned.
