The Worry Wart by Richard Haigler is a delightfully illustrated children’s book about anxiety. The main character is a young person who worries a lot. Their worries are big and small. Will they miss school tomorrow? Will they have to wear that itchy sweater, “the really itchy yellow one with the camel on the front” (page 9)? These are some of the young person’s many worries. I know I would not be happy to have to wear an itchy, yellow sweater with a camel on the front, so I totally understand the worrier's worries.

The illustrations in this book make it fun to read and provide many giggles. Every page has a colorful picture on it that vividly brings the worry to life with primary colors. The images range from aliens and an alien spaceship to piles and piles of green lima beans. The power of the images and worries lies in normalizing feelings of anxiety at any age. All humans experience anxiety in some form or another. For children (and adults too), the feelings can be big and scary. A book like The Worry Wart can help children realize their fears are okay to have.

I really enjoyed reading this children’s book. The author did a wonderful job writing and illustrating it. I didn’t find any typos or errors in it. I chose the Kindle version of The Worry Wart, and I found I could read it on my Kindle app, but the book “wasn’t compatible” with my Kindle e-reader. Because of its illustrations, this book is probably best enjoyed as a paperback.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was a joy to read, and it was fun to look at each illustration. I would recommend this book to all children and their parents. I would also recommend it as a tool for teachers and other professionals who work with children to use with them.
