Have you ever heard someone say that the moon is made of cheese? Kaylene the mouse certainly has! She decides that she is going to go up to the moon and find out for sure. She builds a rocket and takes off. What will she find? Read Moon Cheese is the Best by Alyssa Andrews to find out!

I loved the illustrations in this story. They were colorful and imaginative. I especially enjoyed it when the illustrations included some of the words or sound effects from the text. For example, when Kaylene’s stomach growls, the illustration depicts Kaylene and the word grumble three times in big, bold letters. It added a nice dimension to the story. I also enjoyed the silly nature of the story. It is not designed to teach a lesson. Sometimes, books like that can be refreshing because they are simply there to entertain. It’s not scientifically accurate; there is a talking mouse who builds a spaceship. That’s part of the playful charm.

A drawback I found was that the rhyming seemed a little off here and there. Some sentences became a little wordy to fit the rhyming word in, or the words didn’t quite rhyme. However, it wasn’t a huge deal, and I doubt kids would even notice or care.

All of that said, I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It's a fun and playful story that is sure to delight young readers with its beautiful illustrations. The wordiness is not distracting enough to reduce a star. It was also edited exceptionally well.

I recommend this book to children who like cheese. The book talks about several different varieties of cheese, which is a fun conversation starter for kids who have not tried some of the varieties. I also recommend this book to children who enjoy reading about space or have a big imagination. Check out Moon Cheese is the Best by Alyssa Andrews to read this delightful tale.
