Review of Baby: Let the party begin.
Are you ready to welcome Baby with the animals of Baby: Let the Party Begin by Alice Anne Townsend? It is Sunday when White Bird starts the community alert to welcome Baby, a Very Special Family Member who is visiting from Oregon. Her invitation is that each animal teaches Baby something valuable that they know. What will each of the animals choose to teach Baby?
I have to say Baby: Let the Party Begin is a book I enjoyed only for the story it tells because it teaches young readers useful lessons. Moreover, it was nice to read how each of the animals found something to teach the newcomer, even if some of them had doubts about the value of what they knew.
What I did not like was the layout and pictures of the book. There are no page numbers, and all the pages on the right are blank (the text is on the pages on the left). I assume the author intended to invite young readers to write or draw on the blank pages; however, there is no instruction or invitation to use them like this, so you are puzzled and unwilling to take action. Furthermore, the images at the end of the book have a low resolution, which is a pity because some drawings (I am thinking of the bee in particular) are blurred.
As for typographical errors, I only found one, so at least from this point of view, you will not be disappointed.
Overall, I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. Baby: Let the Party Begin is not the worst children's book I have read, but there are others that tell meaningful stories with much better pictures and layout. I still recommend this book to parents who want to read a good story to their children, but I warn them that they will not have a beautiful book to show their young readers.
