Review of Pooch In A Pound
[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Pooch In A Pound" by Catherine Rybak.]
Pooch is a dog who lives at an animal shelter, and the whole story is told from his perspective. He explains how his family moved, and they dropped him off at the shelter until his new room was ready. Pooch reminisces about chewing on chair legs and shoes at his old home. He expresses optimism that his family will return soon. He also meets some animal friends called Kitty Kitty and Puppy Dog. Will Pooch’s family return? What will happen to his new friends? I love that this book was told from the perspective of Pooch. It was adorable to see his positive attitude and almost childlike innocence. I thought it was a great way to show how a dog in Pooch’s situation might feel. It was also a little sad to hear that his family left him at the shelter in the first place, but I liked that the book shed light on the many animals up for adoption.
The only real drawbacks for me were some minor editing errors and how one of the characters mentioned needing two dogs. When a dog is adopted, you would hope it was out of a desire to care for and love that animal rather than to fulfill a need. I’m not entirely sure why this character needed two dogs because it was never explained. It felt like he needed to adopt the dog but didn’t want to, and I was put off by that.
I rate Pooch In A Pound 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a lovely, heartwarming tale with a good message. The minor drawbacks were not enough of a distraction to take away a star.
I think children who like dogs will be delighted by this story. It would also appeal to people who are pet owners, especially if they have adopted from a shelter. Check out Pooch In A Pound by Catherine Rybak to read this sweet tale.

Thank you so much for your great review of my book, "Pooch In A Pound." These dogs and cats have been in my life either past or present. Some belonged to other family members. This makes this book so close to my heart. I also wanted to make people aware of how much shelter animals need a lifetime home. Thank you, once again, for sharing your time with me.
