Lirien and Her Friends Save the Magic Forest is a 25-page children's fantasy adventure book by William Bold. The text and its matching image are on alternate (opposite) pages. The story starts with a description of the magical forest; the appearance, the rich forest sounds, the joy of the inhabitants, and the elves! The first thing that caught my eye was the elves' beautiful wings.

Three friends discover something that threatens the forest and all its inhabitants; Lirien, the leader of the elves; Nym, who's always ready to help others; and Eleri, the adventurer. They trace it back to a dark magic user with enough power to rival theirs. The three will have to rely on more than just their magic if they hope to save their home.

I liked the fact that this is a fantasy story that teaches about environmental protection. I think such stories (fantasy) expand a child's imagination and let them see the magic in the world (in nature). We're not the only ones living here, after all. Other important lessons include teamwork, problem-solving, friendship, peaceful coexistence, and determination, just to name a few.

I loved the colorful illustrations done by Wathmi de Zoysa. Also, the text is in white font on colored backgrounds (different colors for different pages). This book is beautiful; children will find it appealing.

The only negative aspect this book has is its editing; I noticed more than ten errors in the text. I think it should go through another round of editing to make the text error-free and to improve the story's overall flow, this being a book for young readers and all. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars as a result.

This book's target audience is children of ages five through twelve. That's who I recommend it for, but the children closer to five might need to read with a grownup.
