Review of Ponchito And Margarita’s First Halloween
It's Halloween night, and excitement fills the air as Mama unlocks her steel safe. This year is extra special, as their adopted squirrels, Ponchito and Margarita, will be part of the Halloween Parade. Each of the three children, along with Ponchito and Margarita, receives a mysterious item from the safe that will play a significant role before the night ends. But for now, it's time to savor Mama's hot apple cider, brewed from a closely guarded generational secret recipe. Join Mya, Charlie, Jacob, Ponchito, and Margarita on this unforgettable day and night.
Ponchito and Margarita's First Halloween by Nelibeth Plaza, published in 2023, is an enchanting children's book that weaves an extraordinary tale that has an ordinary beginning. It beautifully captures the curiosity and innocence of childhood while delivering a valuable lesson that ties the story together. This memorable narrative with incredible characters ensures that this lesson remains etched in a child's mind.
The characters in the book are both believable and brilliant. Charlie's determination contrasts with his siblings' curiosity, making them seem adaptable, yet they stand united with unwavering courage throughout the story. The book introduces a captivating cast of characters, from dancing zombies and mummies to vampires, walking skeletons, an owl, and flying bats. Margarita, in her unique way, may hold the key to dealing with them. The storytelling is engaging, featuring simple rhymes that will resonate with children.
However, one minor flaw noted in the version I read, which I purchased from Kindle, was the overall quality of the font. I hope this issue is specific to this version, as visual appeal plays a crucial role in children's books.
Overall, I rate Ponchito and Margarita's First Halloween four out of five stars. It is a story that I wholeheartedly recommend for parents, guardians, and educators to share with children. The book is not only captivating but also prompts engaging conversations. It piques children's interest and encourages them to ask questions about the various characters and themes encountered in the story. One prominent topic for discussion is the importance of openness and the consequences of keeping secrets.
