Review of Destiny's Journey
Destiny’s Journey: The Adventure Continues by D.J. Steel is the second installment in a series of children’s books. The main character at the center of these books is Destiny Drummond. Destiny is a twelve-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair. Destiny lost both of her parents in a tragic car accident and lives with her foster mother and foster grandmother. Although they love her and want what’s best for her, she misses her parents and feels a void in her life.
When Destiny became ill with a fever, she spent several days unconscious in the hospital. During this time, she entered a dream state where she could walk and did not need a wheelchair. She also met new friends and traveled to amazing places. During her adventures, she engaged in a battle between good and evil. Her friends were introduced to readers in the first novel in the series. This novel continues their adventures together. The wicked Maximum Mischief has engaged an army to find Destiny and her friends and there is a suspenseful battle at sea. Destiny and her friends must work together to overcome all of the hardships they face.
The book consists of thirteen chapters filled with action and adventure. I recommend this book to young readers who will be able to relate to Destiny. She is a smart, kind, and loyal young girl. The book teaches valuable lessons about friendship and loyalty. Destiny and her friends take care of one another through the dangerous situations and hardships they encounter.
In addition, Destiny also had inner struggles when she learned that her foster mother and foster grandmother wanted to adopt her. She felt immense love and loyalty to the parents she lost and did not want to replace them. However, she also loved her new family and the love they had shown her after her parents died. She turned to her friends to discuss these complex feelings and questions. These difficult conversations will teach young readers how to express themselves and resolve problems with the help of trusted friends.
There was nothing that I disliked about this book. The story was engaging and creative. I give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Although it is the second book in a series, I had no problem immersing myself in the story without reading the first book in the series. Young readers will enjoy reading about the adventures of Destiny and her friends. They will also appreciate the lessons they learn along the way. The lessons about life and friendship are what I liked most about the book.
