Emmy is a six-year-old Filipino-American girl who has just moved to America. While unpacking her suitcase, she finds her diary, which she had written with her mother while living in the Philippines. Emmy reads the pages she wrote and guides us through her day, both on school days and weekends, sharing with us the details of her routine, curiosities about life in the Philippines, and a little wisdom. This is the story R. B. Weis will tell you in the delightful children's book Emmy's Diary: My Life in the Philippines, written in English and Tagalog.

I had a lot of fun reading this book, first of all, because Emmy's adventures are unique. Emmy is a lovely little girl whose stories and curiosities are fascinating. What I liked most was the enthusiasm with which the little girl talked about her day, and I also found the details on Filipino traditions interesting; the one that struck me the most was the custom of placing a hand on the little girl's forehead when she came home from school.

It also made me think that Emmy's father lives in the United States and that the only way he and his daughter can stay in touch is by phone. Children who live far from their parents may find Emmy's approach inspiring.

This book does not have negative sides, in my opinion. The fact that it is written in two languages is not confusing but rather interesting. I do not know Tagalog, but I find this choice suitable for the book because it underlines its originality and helps children broaden their horizons.

I must also add that I did not find many typographical errors, so I must say that overall, the book is quite well-edited.

For all these reasons, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend reading it to all curious children. I also invite parents to use Emmy's Diary to stimulate young people's interest in different places and cultures.
