Review of The Haunted Mansion
The Secrets of the Haunted Mansion by Caroline Lobbin is the perfect read for Halloween. It revolves around a mansion that has been haunted ever since the 1800s. When Emily, a history buff, gets to know about the existence of this house, she is flabbergasted. She decides to go into the mansion and prove that no ghosts live there. One thing leads to another, and her best friend, Claire, also gets embroiled in her shenanigans. Little do the girls know that their foray into the haunted mansion will lead them to an adventure of a lifetime.
Who lives in the haunted mansion? What are its secrets? Will Emily and Claire be able to uncover the haunted mansion's secrets and leave the place unscathed?
The Secrets of the Haunted Mansion is an amazingly written children's novel. It is both spooky and packed with life lessons. Lobbin spectacularly portrays the value of kindness through the story of two twelve-year-old girls. She also depicts the significance of friendship and the joy of redemption. All this is done in a fun manner bound to appeal to children. To top it off, there are illustrations that can easily hold the little ones' attention. The sketches really bring the story to life.
I have to mention that the book is pretty scintillating. I was on tenterhooks to know the girls' future. It is worth saying that the portrayal of ghosts is quite realistic. Moreover, all the characters were quite relatable. I loved Emily and Claire's friendship. Fraught with childish breakups and heartwarming reconciliations, it reminded me of my childhood best friend. Emily's mother was pretty fun too. Her interactions with the girls were relatable. I found Prince John's transition to be remarkable. Thomas, Gerald, and Mary were all great. However, Cindy was my favorite of them all. I believe without her nothing would have been possible.
Overall, I have nothing to dislike. Hence, I happily rate Caroline Lobbin's The Secrets of the Haunted Mansion 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to children of all ages.
