The Three Little Piggies and The Big Bad Wolf's Wonderful Luau by Henrique Meyer is a children's book with a fun twist on the classic tale The Three Little Pigs. Meyer started writing and publishing children's books in 2024.

The book starts similarly to the original Three Little Pigs story. The Big Bad Wolf wants to catch the pigs, so he blows down the straw and wood houses. He can't blow down the brick house, so he disguises himself as an old woman, and the pig opens the door. This is where the story has a twist and takes a different turn from the original tale. The Big Bad Wolf captures the pigs and brings them to his place. He uses the pigs to make a feast for his friends.

The story is written in rhyming couplets, which works well when reading aloud. Most of the rhyming couplets are effective, but some aren't as good. An example is, "' No way!' Stinky refused with a confident shout, so the wolf thought of a way to trick him out." The meaning of the second line of this couplet isn't clear. I particularly liked the illustrations of the three little houses, the fire and the scenery. I wasn't so keen on the images of the characters; I didn't think they were appealing.

In the original Three Little Pigs, the first two pigs are eaten by the wolf, but the third pig triumphs when the wolf comes down his chimney and lands in a pot of boiling water. In this book, the three pigs meet a bad end, and the twist in the story is that the villain is the winner. Some children would prefer a happy ending for the good characters, but others would find this story funny.

The Three Little Piggies and The Big Bad Wolf's Wonderful Luau would appeal to young readers who like an entertaining story. The book lends itself well to being read aloud. It wouldn't suit readers who wouldn't like the pigs being eaten and the Big Bad Wolf being the winner. I have taken two stars off for the images of the characters and the less effective couplets. The editing is excellent. I award this book 3 out of 5 stars.
