Dorianne Allister Winkler is a resident of Kauai, which is the oldest and northernmost island of Hawaii. This island is famous for its picturesque rainbows and lush gardens. Dorianne lives with her supportive husband, an amazing child, and a variety of companion animals. Having lived in a tropical environment for a considerable amount of time, she has grown accustomed to being around numerous types of creepy and crawling critters. As a teacher, she has spent a significant part of her life interacting with children. Drawing inspiration from these two aspects of her life, she created the book MZ Millipede: Tale Ticklers. It is a fascinating read about a magical millipede who writes poetry and illustrates all the creepy crawlies and other beings found in her surroundings.

The book is well-made and visually appealing. It contains 26 poems spread out over 64 pages. The poems are wonderfully imaginative and take you on a whimsical journey to a world of children and their imaginations. After the first poem, I'm sure children will be searching for the millipede on every page. It's hilarious to imagine a millipede rotating her hips to the hula melody with her hundred spiracles, as described in the second poem. The names of the millipede's Sunday breakfast guests will amuse you, and what was served will make your mouth water. Anyone who has had to deal with a younger sibling will understand the poem, Brother Monster. I could go on and on about Preeta and her lollipop, Senorita Carmelita and her parrot, how Candice Cotty won the competition, and Latrina's visit to the vet. However, it is best that I let you discover them yourself and enjoy these naughty and highly imaginative poems.

I was pleasantly surprised by the level of uniqueness in this particular book. The illustrations were captivating, as unique as the poems themselves, and they enhanced the whimsical charm of the book. Additionally, the words and rhyme scheme of the poems will help children develop their reading, pronunciation, and vocabulary skills. I appreciate how the book encourages children to go wild with their imaginations. Moreover, the poems may help some children feel more comfortable around the creepy, crawly creatures that are typically detested or feared. I'm certain that kids would love to read this book over and over again, enjoying the illustrations and having fun each time.

I have no negative feedback to provide regarding the poems or the layout of the book. I was delighted to discover that the book is free of errors, which indicates that the editors have done a wonderful job. Therefore, I happily rate the book a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars.

Although the collection is intended for children, it will also appeal to adults. It is guaranteed to engage the reader and make them smile and laugh. The book would make a great addition to any school library, and it also serves as a thoughtful gift.

Though there is no particular mention about it, I appreciated the idea because, as a child, I was—and still am—uncomfortable around their countless legs. It is an effective attempt to foster a sense of comfort by introducing kids to them at a young age, in a subtle way.
