Hey, Little Ant by Phillip and Hannah Hoose

Post by kreichler2012 »

I found this book to be very cute and funny! The narration between the little kid and the ant is a wonderful book to read out loud because the different voices can be portrayed and the kids will find that to be very interesting. Should the little boy squish the ant or should he let him live? That is what this book is all about.
The little boy has his reasoning to squish the ant and yet the little ant has his own reasons as to why he should live. Since we hear two sides of the story the children will be able to make their own decision about what is right and what is wrong. The illustrations also create a great image of the ant and the boy talking to each other, which is quite comical.
The illustrations in the book are simple enough that they do not distract from the story. Since the book is geared towards younger elementary, the illustrations really complete the story. This book also could be a great introduction to a science project about ants. The story could also talk about morals, and teach the kids what they are. A short read that is very cute. I would recommend this book to all children!

I love this book! I use it in my classroom. I let the students write their own ending to the story and they love it!
