Very detailed and insightful review! I do sometimes browse and read children's book because they sound interesting, or because I'm attracted to their illustration. While the title would've piqued my interest, I also think that I would have agreed with you about the quality of illustration just by looking at the cover itself - it doesn't seem up to par. In fact, the colour actually looks dull.

Thanks for your reply. The cover does give an indication of the quality and type of illustrations contained in the book. While I applaud the author for writing and illustrating the book herself, it still must be held to the standard of other children's books available, and I think it falls short.

Very honest review, Pasha. As for the "toque"... well, at first I read it as "tongue". Searching for a lost tongue - that could be an adventure!

Yeah, a word that you don't hear too often, unless you live in Canada, I guess. Just recently I saw it spelled as "tuque." So there are at least three ways to spell it, it seems, and it's still an unfamiliar word to most people.

How my brain worked when I read the title:
*misreading the word "touque" for "tongue"
*being really creeped out
*finding out it is about a dino
*figuriong that since the bone in the tongue is so small and not attatched to other bones, hence it is so easy to get lost in fossils, then it maybe is a story about come-to-life-dino-sceleton, searching for his missing bone with a team of friendly animal scientist.
*Feeling bit dissappointed as I found out what the story really is about.

Thank you for the review, PashaRu! It was very informative and as other forum members said, a great example of a review for a small children's book.

Thanks, I guess the review would read a bit differently if it was about a lost tongue.

Some words and phrases are indeed very parochial.

I still have much of Canada I want to explore. Just need to rake in the paid earnings first ..

I feel embarrassed when I read the title because I didn't have any idea what toque/touque is. It seems like the book capitalized on the illustrations and not on the story. Great review!

Thank you. No need to feel embarrassed, I think only a very small number of people - in eastern Canada - know what a toque/touque is.
