I love reading about popular stories re-done, like fairy tales and the like. I really enjoyed reading your review, it was funny, flowed, and I like how you connected the book to your own childhood. It helps that the Wizard of Oz was something we all saw when we were little. I understand how the story might not be done perfectly, but thank you for introducing me to the possibility.

Fantastic review, PashaRu. Some time ago I reviewed another book by Dennis Sanchez. I gave it 4 stars because, I think, Dennis deliberately writes as he does. I enjoyed finding out how he was playing with the familiar plots and characters. I think his books are better suited for adults than for children. If read from adults' perspective, the books have quite a few subtexts (at least the book I read had). Toto's inability to communicate with others is an interesting subject itself, isn't it?

Thanks for your comment. I agree that the book can be enjoyed by both children and adults, and adults will understand much more of the humor and allusions.

I really enjoyed reading your review. I am in the process of putting to+gether a "Wizard of Oz" themed birthday party. My two young girls love the movie and have watched "The Wiz Live" over and over again. I as a child was scared of the flying monkeys and never thought it would be a good fit for my 3 and 1 year old but I was wrong. I am looking forward to reading this book. My girls will get to enjoy as well. Great review. You just sold a copy for the author.

I love retellings of popular stories. I have never read The Wizard of Oz! Never even crossed my mind...now I'm curious to read the original and see how it differs from the movie.

The movie version of a book usually presents the story in truncated form. It's always interesting to read the book and see the full story and scope the author's intentions.

Wonderful, fun review! Like aparsons, I also liked how you connected it to your childhood. It makes your review more personal and relatable. I do feel bad for poor Toto, nobody understanding how smart he actually is

Thank you! Yeah, poor Toto. He's the unsung hero, and we're not sure what would have become of Dorothy and her friends had they not been in his capable paws.

That's his take on it, anyway.
