A kids' book about collecting and sharing words sounds good! I love kids' books that convey lessons and improve vocabulary in a fun way, as this one seems to do. It is great that kids can learn new vocabulary and experience it via examples at the same time. I agree that the illustrations are awesome! The attention to detail is another bonus.
It sounds like a great book for kids. Thank you for the review!

Sounds like a fun book for teachers especially. Kids love something more creative than traditional vocabulary lessons.

The illustrations are definitely lovely. Priscilla reminds me of another favorite avian, Big Bird. I am sure kids will enjoy learning the words. But I do not know if they can relate well to the notebooks (not the electronic kind).

I am off to read the rest of the book and find me a leprechaun's legendary pot of gold.

Thanks for the endearing review, BookishCreature!

I agree that the book has a great message, and the illustrations are lovely. However, as you say, some of the words are very challenging – they're taken out of context, which is not good for beginner readers. Perhaps this is a book for parents to share with children, but I don't think I would have appreciated when I was a child.

I love that Priscilla collects words, but has trouble sharing them. I hope she learns to share them! The pictures do look very inviting, and it's great to hear that the vocabulary and writing is simple and age-appropriate. This does seem like a good educational book, and the tie-in with friendship and creativity sounds like a well-rounded story. I'm glad that you were able to enjoy this one and you found it beneficial for those who like to inspire a love for words to children. Thank you for the lovely review!

I may not read it because I'm not into children's books but I'm sure children will love this story.

The Word Collector by Evelyn Dunbar Webb is an excellent children's book. I have never come across its like in my childhood, my sisters, or in my sons. Introducing kids to a variety of common and new words not to mention word categories is a fantastic idea. Not only does it introduce children into learning to write as well as read but it encourages friendship and the sharing of knowledge. I actually cannot wait to read this to my son today. I would recommend this to parents everywhere to help influence a new generation of readers and writers.
