I won't lie, my first thought was that this was an adorable children's story. That being said, I like that it also served a purpose in continuing the Helix series' efforts to educate kids about disabilities and learning how to understand and even help friends with them.

I love the way this book series educates people about the everyday difficulties that people with a disability encounter.

This is the first book I’ve read in the series, and it does an excellent job of educating people. It has an impact on both the adult and the child reading it—in fact, I believe there are things that only the adult will get. I was profoundly touched by one scene in particular. It was as simple as a street sign that was included in an illustration.

I think it's important that people learn to accommodate and appreciate other people with disabilities. What better time to teach them than when they are children through books like these. Great review!

I agree! Whether they identify with the characters in the book or have not yet encountered these scenarios, it is still a great experience for the young reader as well as the adult. Thank you for your comment.

Great review! I love the fact that Helix has a disability but is still allowed to be involved in activities every young person would want to enjoy such as a sleepover.

It was amazing to see Helix’s ingenuous devices that allowed him to do the things his friend took for granted. It was eye-opening, and the authors presented it in a subtle, thoughtful way. Thank you for your comment!

I thinks this lets children know they loved no matter what life has dealt them and there are ways to help them be an important part of society so no one is left out.
