I Can See Peace by Julie Penshorn is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that teaches how someone can see peace in everything around them. The story also includes finding a peaceful resolution in difficult situations. It teaches conflict resolution, acceptance of those who are different, and the ability to become calm without outside assistance.

The illustrations, done by Jeanine-Jonee Keith, depict a range of children in widely varied situations. It has children in urban settings, rural settings, as well as in nature. The children are of all different races, ages, and abilities. The illustrations are done in such a way as to enhance the story and add to the lessons learned.

I found that the lessons in this story are much needed for children in any situation. The story is written in rhymes which make the flow pleasant to follow. I think that the simplicity of the words used and the minimal words per page are perfect for the age group that it is geared toward. I would recommend this book to pre-school through 1st or 2nd grade.

In addition to the story, the author has included some wonderful teaching aids. The last few pages of the book focus on how to use the story to teach children. It includes games to play and questions to ask in order to pique interest. What I found to be interesting about this section, is that the author is able to give the suggestions in a way that also makes the adult think about the way they seek peace. I like that it sets out to teach children, but is able to teach adults.

This book seems to be professionally edited with no errors. It teaches much-needed lessons to children as well as adults. The illustrations are well done and add to the impact of the story. I can’t say there was anything about the book that I didn’t like or that I found to be inappropriate. I think it would be a great story to use for a school class or even a children’s church class. I gladly rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I think there need to be more books like this. Teaching kids how to come to peace with different things, situations, people, can all help contribute to how they see the world when they grow older. It could also help with the rise in anxiety that is being discovered.

Your observation that the book is suitable for children as well as adults is interesting. Once the idea of peace is planted in our minds, we can develop the habit of putting the author's suggestions into practice. I enjoyed your paragraph about the illustrations included in the book. Thanks for this motivating review.

A book that teaches children how to see peace would be a wonderful addition to any children's library, especially in today's world. Thanks for a wonderful review!
