What’s Your Favorite Color? by Amber L Lassiter is a book meant for young readers. It begins with its main character (Amber) in her grade-school classroom. All of the students get to paint a picture that day using their favorite color. They have to keep their favorite color a secret until the end of the day. When Amber finds that she has forgotten her paints, she has to borrow some without revealing her secret color. Can she do it?
The cover of this book uses a simple variation of watercolor paints blended to create a beautiful, attractive invitation to readers. The colors are bright and happy, and the text font is suited well to the book. I believe the cover will appeal to kids, especially those who enjoy painting.
I loved the illustrations in this book! They compliment the well-written descriptions of the classroom setting nicely. The first scene in the book, which describes the curtains draping the classroom windows, is a beautiful combination of artistic illustration and good writing. Together they paint an excellent picture for kids.
This book entertains with a simple to follow and engaging plot. I liked the way a question follows each scene. It encourages young readers to think about what they have just read. It helps focus on reading comprehension and adds to the educational feel of the story. That element of education threading throughout the plot is my favorite thing about this book. I feel that it will be helpful in reading and encourage students to be creative.
I believe this book is perfect for its intended target of 1 - 3rd graders. Children of this age group will enjoy the color and art in this book, as well as the way the story progresses. Kids will love trying to guess what Amber’s favorite color is, a detail that is not revealed until the very end.
I couldn’t find anything to dislike about this book. It is a thoughtful presentation with a creative flair that will appeal to young readers. Among other reasons, I’m rating this book with 4 out of 4 stars because of its unique goals in learning achievement. It is well edited, and I found very few errors. I recommend it to children learning to read, as well as those already reading. It uses simple sentences that will be easy to understand. I also highly recommend it to teachers and educators as an educational aid for young readers.
