Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is a children’s book that follows the adventures of Inca, a cat detective and her company, formed by other pets specialized in solving mysteries. The book consists of Inca’s diary entries in the span of 8 days. The action takes place in Sri Lanka, in a village named Galle, where Inca’s mother, who is a human, decided to spend her vacation.

The book becomes extremely interesting when we find out the fact that an antique sword has been stolen from a museum in Colombo. When Solo, a well-known international detective that happens to be their neighbor in Kensington is invited by the director of the Museum to investigate the case, the entire book becomes extremely captivating.

I love the way R.F. Kristi uses her books to educate children about the many countries her characters keep on visiting. For example, I was impressed by the fact that she mentioned the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites found on the island. There is also a lot of focus on the animal world. In this book, from the beginning, the children can read about the “nearly a hundred years” old sea turtle.

There are many creative illustrations throughout this book. From elephants to sea turtles, giraffes to a cat mermaid, the creativity really shines through! I think any child would be immediately drawn to these intriguing pictures.

I couldn’t find any editing errors, and the way the book is written is excellent. Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi offers a relatively complicated plot, written in a very easy to follow manner. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I think this children’s book offers the perfect mix of educational content and mystery, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about exotic locations, foreign cultures, and…animals!
