Toni the Superhero, by R.D. Base, is an adorable children’s book that tells the reader about a boy named Toni. Even though Toni is a superhero with extraordinary powers, he likes many “normal” kid activities like reading, dancing, and helping around the house.

This book is meant to help children learn how to read. It is simple and repetitive in order to achieve this. There isn’t an actual storyline. The reader just learns about what Toni likes to do. Typically one would think a superhero book would include the hero fighting crime and saving the world, but this book is different. It’s the introductory book of the series, meant to introduce the reader to Toni.

What I liked most about the book were the beautiful illustrations created by Debbie Hefke. The colors are vibrant and eye-catching, perfect for young children. It’s cute to see Toni wearing his superhero suit to do ordinary activities like dust and play with his friends. My favorite illustration shows Toni sleeping, but his cape is hanging on his headboard, ready to go for the next day.

There was honestly nothing I disliked about the book. Because its intended purpose is to help young children learn how to read, it’s very simple, but in this case, simple is a good thing.

I’m happy to give Toni the Superhero 4 out of 4 stars. I wouldn’t give it a 3 because I love the pictures and the sentences are nice and simple. I would want to read it to my children when they are old enough to learn how to read.

This book would appeal to children up to the age of around 4, maybe 5. Very young kids would enjoy looking at the pictures, even if they aren’t learning to read yet. Older children would be bored by it, though, because it doesn’t tell an actual story.

Toni the Superhero was exceptionally well-edited, and I found no errors. I highly recommend it for children who are learning to read and need a simple book to practice with. There are more books in the series, and I can’t wait to read them too!

I love the picture on the cover, and if that is any indication, the rest of the pictures should be beautiful as well. It !does look like a wonderful book for young children. Great review!
