Toni the Superhero by R. D. Base is a children’s book for the young reader. In the traditional sense, this book does not have a plot. Instead, the reader explores what Toni likes to do when he isn’t saving the world. This introduces Toni as not just a superhero but a kid too. He likes to play, run, and jump, among other things. The sentences are short to help kids as they learn to read. This book is the first of a series of Toni the Superhero books.

What I like most about this book is the wonderful art. Every page is full of colorful illustrations of what Toni likes to do. I think the illustrations are important because this is a book for kids just learning to read. By looking at the pictures, they can see what Toni is doing. Even if they haven’t mastered all the words, kids can still read this book by looking at the pictures for clues.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. There were no errors that I could find. Toni is a likeable and great character to build a series on. He shows kids he is like them even though he is also a superhero. This book can teach kids to read, but it also can show them to be kind and helpful. Toni likes to play with his friends, but he also likes to sweep and do other chores. He likes to dance with his mom. Toni also likes to eat, and I noticed that the foods depicted on that page are very healthy. It’s these little choices that prove the writer and illustrator are paying attention to every detail and making this book the best it can be.

Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is a great book for that age where kids are learning to read. Whether they can read it for themselves or need a little help, they’re bound to relate to Toni in this book.
