Despite his name, Grumpy is a happy iguana who enjoys his daily routine, until one day something happens that destroys his routine. Luckily for Grumpy, he makes later a new friend who helps him. What happens to Grumpy? Who is his new friend, and how do they help him? Read Grumpy The Iguana by Susan Marie Chapman to find out.

This book teaches children the importance of friendship and compassion when dealing with life altering events. What happens to Grumpy in the story is a negative incident, but this lesson can also apply to positive events.

The vocabulary used was good for young children. Most of the words could be read by beginning readers. There were some words that they may need help to pronounce, and they might need to be explained to younger children, like glorious, schedule, and compassion. However, that’s easy to do and will improve their vocabulary.

I enjoyed the illustrations in this book, which were done by Natalia Loseva. They were colorful, and they fit with what was happening in the story at the time. Grumpy, in particular, was well drawn and had clear facial expressions, so he was easy to connect with.

I did have a couple issues with this book. The first is that the font is many different colors throughout the story. It seemed to sometimes be used as a way to draw attention to a phrase or word, but other times there didn’t seem to be a reason. There were also some words that were larger than the rest of the text. With some of them I could see why the author wanted to emphasis them, but there were others that I couldn’t. In general, I found the different colors and words sizes a bit distracting.

Overall, I enjoyed this story, and I think children will like it. I recommend it to children ages 4-8, especially if they like reptiles. There were a few minor editing mistakes. Along with the other issues I mentioned, I am rating this book 3 out of 4 stars.

The illustrations in this book make it more appreciable for the reader. The lesson it teaches makes it even better. This is an excellent review.

Anytime a reviewer raises rhetorical questions relating the content of a book, he or she is telling you to read and find out things for yourself. This aside, that the book has positive lessons for children is equally appealing. Great review.

Grumpy the Iguana seems like an adorable book. I think my 7 year old and 3 year old will love this! During lockdown I have from time to time had little Ms. Grumpy around the house, which is understandable... I am thinking this would be a perfect read especially for her! Thanks for the nice review and introducing this book to us!

I'm anxious to know how Grumpy was able to rise through those challenges and become stronger. Bringing about a positive lesson from a negative impact most times isn't feasible. I'm inclined to believe Grumpy did after all. Great review.

Wow, great story with a lot of lessons to learn.I love that the author used colours and illustration.Apart from the flaws, it will be a good read for children.Great review
