What’s Your Favorite Color? is a beautifully illustrated children’s book written by Amber L Lassiter. The story is about a day at Amber’s school when the class has to use their favorite color to paint a picture. Unfortunately, Amber forgets her watercolor paints at home and has to borrow some from her classmates. Amber tries to do this without revealing her favorite color. She must keep her favorite color a secret until she shows her painting to the class.

The book is well presented, with captivating colors and emotive descriptions of the classroom. The illustrations are a great representation of what the author describes. The author includes questions throughout the book, which keep the reader engaged. She does this with just the right frequency that it doesn’t disrupt the flow of the story. I like how the prompts get children to identify the verbal and non-verbal communication taking place as Amber talks to her classmates.

I liked how the author considered Amber’s thought process and feelings. I could understand how they factored into her actions. I think this teaches children how to consider things from someone else's point of view. The author also gives the teacher her last name. I thought this was nice, as the author dedicates the book to her parents as her first teachers.

One thing that I noticed was that after some questions, there was space to write answers. This wasn't consistent throughout the book. However, this is a minor point which doesn’t detract from the story in any way. There was nothing I disliked about the book.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The illustrations in the book are so warm and delightful! The vibrant colors of this book bring the story to life. The book teaches children to be more aware of other people’s emotions. I think some of the words in this book may be beyond some children's understanding. Therefore, as the author recommends, this book is great for teachers and parents to read alongside young children to expand their vocabulary.
