What a delightful book! Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi, the seventh book in the series, details the adventures of Inca, the smart and “super-duper” Siberian detective cat, her two siblings, as well as a hamster and the neighbor’s dog, who all form part of her detective agency called Inca & company.

In the form of a diary/journal writing style, the readers share her experience with her as she and her gang of friends travel to the island of Sri Lanka on holiday with their “humanoid”, but ends up immersed trying to solve the mystery of an antique sword robbery from a museum in Colombo, Sri Lanka. With the help of some of the local island animal inhabitants –Rani the sea turtle, Meena the baby elephant, and her Mama elephant – they investigate the case like proper detectives, but not without some adventures, or rather misadventures, along the way.

Not only was it a fun read, but it also was educational and interesting the way the author depicted the island, the food, and the local cultures. What I most adored about the book is the love the author clearly has for all animals in the way that she describes them, from the tamest house cat to the various encounters with sea turtles, monkeys, leopards, and even pythons. She starts the book with a detailed description of all the main characters in the book in the form of a family-tree with fun illustrations throughout. Even though I had never been to Sri Lanka, from her descriptions I had no trouble imagining the scenic landscape, the sandy beaches, the museums, and the stretches of tea plantations.

It mentions at the beginning of the book that is most suited for a younger audience (ages 7-12) but the writing style, I think, might be more suitable and enjoyable for maybe an even younger age group.

I truly enjoyed reading this book and found it professionally edited with only two minor mistakes, and it is for this reason that I award it a perfect score, 4 out of 4 stars.

I am a reader, not because I don't have a life, but because I choose to have many.
