Review by Arwa_here -- Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a S...
Serendipity Mystery by R.F. Kristi is the seventh book of the Inca series. However, it can be read as a standalone. There is a family tree and an agency introduction page to make the readers familiar with the characters of the story. There are pictures associated with each character, making it easy for kids to identify them.
This time, Inca's mom, Missy, takes her and her other pets to Sri Lanka. They spend the summer on Galle island, live in a cottage, visit tea plantations and solve yet another mystery. They ride on an elephant, make friends with baby elephants, turtles, leopard cubs and swim at the beach.
Solo is a detective and Missy's friend. He's also the one Inca got her detective inspiration from. His dog, Terrance is Inca's friend and a part of her detective agency. Solo is invited to Sri Lanka to investigate the case of the stolen antique sword by the Columbo museum. Snoopy Inca wants to solve the case before him. Will she be able to do it?
One thing I like about this book is that it teaches love for animals. Children can grow a strong bond with their pets if they know that their pets have a personality. When they know that despite not being able to talk, animals can communicate their emotions.
Serendipity Mystery also gives information about heritage and historical sites. It tells about Anuradhapura, an ancient city of Sri Lanka which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Children can learn more about the culture and history of Sri Lanka by reading this book.
There are a couple of difficult words used in the book, which can make it hard for kids to follow up. One such word is blunderbuss. The illustrations bring a breath of fresh air to the story. The characters in all sorts of clothes, doing unpredictable things will not fail to bring a smile to your face. The illustration I liked the most was of Inca where she was in a mermaid suit. It was hilarious. I hope other readers enjoy this book as much as I did.
This book is best for children with ages between 7 to 12 who love animals, mysteries and travelling. I found one spelling error in the book, so it was well-edited. This is my second book by R. F. Kristi and I like this one better. Serendipity Mystery is funny and has a clear direction, both of the things which were lacking in the other book. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for all the reasons stated above.
