There are many genres of children’s books today. Mystery books that have animals as the main characters are one of the most interesting types of children’s books. Although this is a specific genre, I find it very interesting because it encompasses several different elements that can capture a child’s attention. Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is one such book.

The book follows Inca the Siberian Kitty and a group of her animal friends who go to Korea with their owner. Mom, their owner, has created a new type of cheese and wants to present it in Korea at a competition. During their stay in Korea, the animals solve certain mysteries and embark on a multitude of adventures. The book consists of 10 chapters, most of which are named after the days in April in which the action takes place. The book also contains a multitude of illustrations that accompany the text and can further capture children’s attention.

What I liked most about the book is that it contains a lot of informative information. Apart from the fact that children can learn a lot about different species of animals while reading this book, the author also provides a lot of historical and geographical information about Korea. I also liked how the author explained the meaning of almost every Korean name mentioned.

There is nothing I didn’t like about the book. This book is both informative and entertaining. Numerous interesting facts about the history and culture of Korea are incorporated into the story itself. I think children can learn a lot that way without making it seem like a school task.

I decided to give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book incorporates both entertaining and educational elements. I liked how the author conveyed the message that teamwork is very important and that by working together we can achieve the desired results. I would recommend this book to young readers and animal lovers, but also to parents looking for an interesting story to read to children before bed. I did not encounter any grammatical errors.
