The Sleep Switch by Laurie McMillan is an adorable children's book that teaches kids how to relax their bodies and fall asleep. Of course, it's hard to fall asleep when there is so much going on in that little mind. Laurie McMillan acknowledges this but instructs kids on what to do in an interactive way. Rhyme by rhyme, she has kids say goodnight to their body a piece at a time. The process of addressing each body part and taking deep breaths is meant to calm the reader. By the end, kids should be ready to fall asleep.

I really enjoyed this children's book. The author acknowledges that it is hard for kids to relax their bodies and go to sleep. It's not hard to notice that kids never seem to want to stop moving. However, relaxing your body to sleep is even difficult for adults! This book helps teach children and parents mindfulness strategies that can help outside the bedroom as well. It was remarkable that this tiny book could convey such useful and important information.

I found no grammatical errors in the book. The author attempted to rhyme all the sentences, though some are more imperfect rhymes. This did not truly bother me though. The pages and illustrations were colorful and relevant, though many of the pictures were of sleeping kids. As this book is about going to sleep, I wasn't all that surprised.

Overall, I could not find anything I really disliked about the book. It was educational and enjoyable. I wanted to read it and believe that kids will enjoy it. As such, I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend it to preschool and early elementary-aged kids and their parents. Teachers could even use this book to help kids in school learn ways to relax their bodies. However, first and foremost, it is the perfect bedtime story.

With so much going on in the mind, it's hard to catch some sleep. Pictures of the sleeping kids must be humorous.

What a great idea for a children's book! Young kids really do learn from picture books, and this sounds like valuable info for young minds.

Finally, a book about how to put children to sleep smartly without fussing or fighting with them. This is the book for parents with very active kids who are unable to relax and unwind at night.
