Would You Rather: Super Funny Edition For Kids by Virgil K. Cox is a collection of 600 funny questions for the whole family. As the topic suggests, all the questions start with “Would you rather” and present two choices. The choices may be weird, funny or not seem like choices at all. This book is meant to get children off of their smart devices and encourage them to read and interact with other family members.

The book is meant to be fun and interactive. The language is informal. The questions are designed to be funny or just weird. Where a title is gender-specific, the author included both titles; thus the questions apply to all family members.

What I loved most about the book was that it encourages conversation as a family. Some of the questions are such that parents can develop a better sense of how their children think from the nature of their answers. It is also possible to judge what their children like or dislike and whether or not they are happy at home or at school. I even found that you can easily judge the nature of their relationships with relatives and friends. It is an excellent stimulator of conversation.

I came across a few minor errors which were not overly distracting. The downside of this book is that a number of the questions are based around cultural practices such as Christmas, belief in Santa Claus and Halloween. This makes it necessary for parents to choose questions that are better suited to the beliefs that they want to teach their children. I also found that some concepts are strongly American and are not relatable or understandable to children in other countries. I was also not very happy with jokes involving poop, pee, underwear or stealing. There are also some repeated questions which should be picked out by proofreading. The font is such that without careful observation, d’s can look like a’s or h’s like n’s. This might make reading a bit harder for children.

With that said, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because of the aforementioned reasons. The book is fun only if there is someone to address the questions to, therefore it cannot be given to a child to read alone. I recommend this book for the whole family.

Honestly, in an age where children are so glued to their devices, the time for communication with family members is gradually diminishing. This book sounds like a recall. Thanks.

It’s like having a board game in a book! Clever idea. The questions are a great way to find out more about the children in your life in a fun setting. I may add this book to my list. Thanks for a thorough review!

I like how the author manages to spread the message of "encouraging" a family conversations through a children's book. I'm just hesitant that maybe, the child will read the book and not the parents. Well, it won't always be the case for every family.
