Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is a children's illustrated book written by R.F. Kristi and the drawings done by Jorge Valle. The book features Inca, a Siberian cat that has a detective agency. She, together with her sidekicks, helps solve mysteries around them. In this case, they follow their human mom to Seoul, where she has been invited to judge a cooking competition.

The story is action-packed right from the word go. First, they solve their mom's mystery when her prized pizza gets stolen at the airport by one of her adversaries. When they get to the Korean Peninsula, they are met by their tour guide. He has been separated from his sister, who lives in North Korea, for years. Inca and her team decide to help unite the family.

They encounter many obstacles that they conquer to come out successful in their mission. Their journey is packed with knowledgeable tidbits about North and South Korea that children will find useful. Also, the interactions between humans and animals, encourage good relations between the two. An invaluable lesson that children will appreciate.

I loved the cultural, historical, and political information that Kristi included in the story. It is a subtle way for children to learn valuable content without them feeling burdened.

There was nothing to dislike in the book. I found no errors, so I think the book was edited professionally. I give the book a rating of four out of four stars because of this.

I recommend it to children around ten years of age. This is because of the content, which would be better appreciated by kids who would comprehend and be curious about the situation between the two countries, therefore converting the moment into an opportunity to learn more. Another reason to target this age group is the number of illustrations. They were small in size and too few to sufficiently entice younger children. Those between nine and eleven will benefit most from this book.
