Ewww! Lulu Meets the King of Poo, by Janice Maximov Condon, is an imaginative storybook for children aged three and up. It covers the human health system of digestion by taking readers through the body after eating.

Lulu goes on an adventure after she falls asleep with a tummy-ache and takes a tour of her digestive system. She meets all of the wonderful characters that live in her body and work for her health. The last one she meets is the King of Poo.

The character development was excellent in this story. The tour takes readers through the system, and each character is highlighted along the way. The friendly way each one greets Lulu is great and shows their connection with one another as a team.

I loved the happy vibe that this book has. The colorful illustrations are well-made and abundant. The cover, one of the most critical parts of a book, is originally designed and draws interest. These bright features make this book a great addition to any children’s bookshelf. The humor included occasionally is what I like most about the book.

The next significant point about this book is its educational quality. Although scientific terms are used, they are given simply and straightforwardly in a way that is easy for children to understand. The readers go away with a much better understanding of the digestive system and its functions. This writing style was one of the best things about this book, and the glossary at the end is an excellent addition.

I could find nothing to dislike about this book. It stresses the importance of a healthy lifestyle early in life and gives simple explanations throughout the storyline. I believe it will appeal most to young children, although older children may enjoy it as well. It would also work quite well in an instructional setting, such as a classroom. It may not appeal to readers who aren’t into the subject matter of poo. It seemed professionally edited. The few errors I found were missing quotation marks that appeared to be more of a formatting-style issue. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

The title of this book only would cause a riot with my students. I like that it is a book on digestion. Can wait to read it myself.
