Review by shravsi -- Love, Grandma by Ann Morris
Ann (Ana) Morris is an award-winning bilingual (Spanish and English) author who writes books, especially for children. Love, Grandma is a personal memoir she has written dedicated to her granddaughters Payton and Haley. Through this book, she has shared the fond memories she had with her granddaughters all through their growing years.
Morris got to take part in her granddaughters' growing years as they were staying locally with their parents. Morris read them countless books, baked cookies with them, shared her large jars with millions of diverse buttons for their crafts, danced with them, and even tried to do a backbend just like Payton once. Payton and Haley loved having sleepovers, building forts, putting nail polish on grandma’s fingers, opening a toy restaurant, and impromptu puppet shows they had in their grandma’s home. They enjoyed her special backyard garden, her swing, and helped her feed birds.
This book explores the beautiful bond between grandparents and grandchildren along with beautiful illustrations. The activities mentioned might have occurred between Morris and her granddaughters, but countless families have similar memories. This book is a personal recollection of the wonderful days a grandma had with her grandkids. There is no doubt that this book will bring a smile to anyone’s face, and there is no doubt that it will take the reader on a memory trip.
I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for rekindling my memories with my grandma. There are no spelling mistakes. Illustrations by David Gnass are impressive. The illustrations are doing the actions mentioned in the book, and this helped with the flow of the book. Morris has attempted to write this book in rhythm. Much like grandma’s attempt to do a backbend, the effort is much appreciated than the result. Morris’s attempt to engage kids through this book will increase their reading ability, and more than that encourages kids to go and hug their grandma more often.
I will recommend this book for kids below eight years. You may read this with your kids or your grandkids. Or just go and read yourself. Grandma will never fail to bring a smile to your face. This book can also be a great addition to school libraries. The kids can read and discuss their favorite memories with their grandparents. Or make a personalized memory book for your own family like Morris to treasure the memories.
