Whale of Wonder, by Marie-Paule Mahoney, revolves around a conversation between Notch and his mother, Mama Tahlequah. They are both orca whales, a species that is dangerously close to extinction in the present. As we follow Notch and his mother swim across the ocean, we are enlightened as to what it’s like to live as an orca whale. We learn how they communicate and how they grieve their dead. Most especially, we learn that although these animals pose no harm to humans, humans are the very reason why there are so few of them left.

The official review was excellent, the sample was totally inadequate. I agree with the official review and I would like to read this book to my grandchildren.

A simple yet beautifully written book will definitely interest the young ones. I like that there is a lot to learn from the book like having knowledge of how the animals features in the story communicate and grieve. I'm sure children will enjoy reading this book. Congratulations on being the BOTD.

I actually lived in a town in Oklahoma called Tahlequah! And this does sound like a fascinating quick read, especially since most of us have never considered what life might be like as an orca in the ocean. Thank you for your review!

A sneak peek into the world of animals would be a fun thing to do. I'd love to find out how they communicate and mourn their dead.

Great review.

Awww, it sounds so touching. I'd love to read of the real event on which the whale carrying her dead daughter is based. The illustrations also sound enticing. Thanks for the glowing review.

This is a wonderful story. I could not imagine how painful it was to a mother carrying her young daughter, lifeless, for 17 days. It's so depressing that we, humans, cause these animals' close to extinction.
