Homerun, Homerun, Baseball Star: Sports Nursery Rhymes by Brian Johnson is a collection of nursery rhymes revisited in a sports key. “Itsy Bitsy Spider” becomes “Happy Hockey Players,” and “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” becomes “Ski, Ski, Ski Yourself.” Each nursery rhyme is accompanied by lovely illustrations that depict children playing various sports, such as hockey, soccer, and swimming. Sam and Sue are engaged in a swimming competition, Mary never separates from her soccer ball, and the other characters are all excited to be playing their sports.

In this day and age where technology has taken over much of our children’s entertainment, it is fundamental that we encourage them to do sports and teach them the many benefits of moving their bodies. I believe that this book has great potential to encourage young children to engage in physical activity and help them visualize the joy and fulfillment that comes with them. Furthermore, the rhymes and illustrations are quite educational, as they introduce different sports to young children in a simple and pleasant format.

It’s very easy for young children to be visually captivated by this book. The illustrations by Aneeza Ashraf are lovely and vibrant, and they will surely stimulate children’s imagination and creativity with their bright colors and joyful characters. Each character is illustrated as happy and excited to participate in their game. The backgrounds are stimulating, filled with nature and bright colors.

I do not have any negative remarks about this book. I think it is an amazing resource to introduce young children to sports and encourage them to try one out. I only came across two minor errors that could be easily edited out. Hence, I rate Homerun, Homerun, Baseball Star: Sports Nursery Rhymes by Brian Johnson 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to parents of children between the ages of zero and six. The author did a wonderful job of sticking to the rhyme schemes of the original nursery rhymes, so that you can comfortably read them to your kids as bedtime stories.

This here is a wonderful children's book. Most children nowadays just play with their iPads and play stations. Outdoor sports are quite important to a kids growth and development. Great review, Maria!
