Review by AnnieOgoo -- Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a S...
In Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat, the kitties (Inca, Fromage, and Cara) and their hamster, Charlotte, are spending the holiday on the sunny island of Sri Lanka. It is going to be a lazy, sunny, and fun holiday on the beach. Mom has a lot of interesting activities planned out; they would visit a tea plantation, drive through a game reserve for wild animals, and explore the timeless ruins of Anuradhapura. So much adventure! They also make new friends on the beach: Rani the turtle, Meena the baby elephant, and mama elephant.
To spice up the already-adventurous holiday, mum's friend, Solo, and his doggie companion, Terrance, join them on the island. Solo is a renowned detective, and he has been invited by the director of the Colombus Museum to investigate a robbery at the museum. This is a double treat for Inca, the snoopy cat, and her detective team. Amidst so much fun and adventure, how will the team crack this case before the holiday is over?
Once again, R. F. Kristi presents us with a beautiful story for children's delight. With very colorful and expressive illustrations, the book was attractive and fun to read. The simple plot unfolded at a steady pace, and the language was informal and chatty. The characters were unique, likable, and intelligent. More so, the story was realistic, despite being told from a cat's perspective; the conversations and characters weren't too abstract to be believable. Serendipity Mystery was an interesting, educating, and delightful read.
This installment featured the importance of teamwork and kindness. There were also a lot of new places to learn about. The most remarkable, for me, was the ancient city of Anuradhapura. I like that there is always some remarkable place to learn about in every Inca Detective Series. Now I often dream about visiting the beautiful island of Sri Lanka.
There was nothing I disliked about this book. I didn't notice any error, so I can say that the editing was pro. The illustrations are also worth commending; they were beautiful, and fun to look at. In my opinion, this book would be perfect for any child between ages 5 to 13 (unless the child is anti-feline). Although it is the 7th book in the series, this book can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. In conclusion, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
