Official Review: Fuzzy Bunny Slippers by J. M. Verdi
Fuzzy Bunny Slippers is a children’s book written by J. M. Verdi and illustrated by Kat Spencer. This rhyming tale tells the story of Erin, a little girl who loves fluffy bunnies. Erin receives a pair of bunny slippers for Christmas.
The bunnies who live outside think that Erin has kidnapped a couple of real rabbits. They endeavor to break into her house to rescue the rabbits. They find that the door is unlocked. When they come inside, they realize that the “rabbits” are a pair of bunny slippers. The story ends with Erin sitting in a cozy chair wearing her bunny slippers while reading to the real bunnies.
This is a cute story that is appropriate for children of all ages. It contains only very mild peril that is quickly and happily resolved. The pictures are bright and beautiful and have an almost dreamlike glowing quality about them.
Erin is a charming protagonist that children can relate to, and the determined bunnies are adorable. The text is easily readable, contrasting nicely with the brightly colored background. I feel that the tale’s simple rhyming scheme could be helpful for children who are learning how to read as rhyming words tend to help reinforce memorization.
The story also reinforces the positive ideals of loving and caring for animals and nature. While letting wild animals into the house as Erin does isn’t practical in real life, parents can use the story as a lead-in to teaching kids to respect and care for animals.
There was nothing that I disliked about this book. It was well-written, beautifully formatted, and I believe that it was professionally edited as I found no errors in the text. I am pleased to give Fuzzy Bunny Slippers a well-deserved four out of four stars and recommend this cute book without reservation to those with young children in their lives.
