Sebastian and Lola are a pair of lobster socks made with love and sent to Emily from her grandmother. These are no ordinary socks. These magical socks are a dynamic duo who don’t always see eye to eye. Sebastian can be a bit grumpy and hard to please. Lola, on the other hand, always has a smile on her face and sees the bright side of things.

Things turn for the worse when Lola gets lost and is on her own for the first time. Sebastian is understandably upset at the loss of his best friend. Find out what will happen to these loveable lobster socks. Will they ever be reunited? Will they ever know joy and love again?

Sock Lobsters, by Michelle Bulriss, is a delightful children’s book with a magical and creative storyline combined with life lessons for young children. It is also beautifully illustrated. Although there are countless things to love about this book, my favorite is that this pair of socks are lobsters. This is such a fun take on socks and highlights diversity and uniqueness.

Although there are many lessons to be learned in the book, the stages of grief and loss are at the forefront. The author amazingly tackles the full spectrum of emotions the two characters feel when they are suddenly separated. Another strong theme in the book is the benefit of having a positive outlook on life. I enjoyed this book tremendously and found absolutely nothing negative to comment on. This is a beautifully written children’s book that has been professionally edited and is appropriate for all children.

My rating for Sock Lobsters is an enthusiastic 4 out of 4 stars. This is a perfect book to read to young children as well as for those who are beginning to read. I highly recommend this book to all young readers and any adult who reads to children. As a former teacher myself, I especially recommend this book for teachers to engage in discussions with their students about emotions and loss.
