Shadow's Adventure Home by Kathy Kovar is the story of a house cat that loves his family and loves to watch birds out the window. Suddenly, his family packs up and moves to a new house. At the new house, there are many birds for Shadow to watch out the window. One day, the kids accidentally leave the door open. Shadow can’t resist chasing a bird he sees outside. Shadow is having so much fun chasing the bird he doesn’t notice how far he runs. Soon it gets dark, and he realizes that he is lost. Will Shadow be able to find his way home?

I enjoyed many things about this book. This children's book is beautifully illustrated by Mardel Rubio. The colors are calm and soothing. I love that the story is based on the author's real cat that got lost. This is a great book for teaching children about not giving up hope. This book also talks about animal shelters, which is a great topic to discuss with kids. It’s easy to get invested in this story. Shadow is a very lovable character. It makes this story more enjoyable that it is told from the cat's perspective. I love books that encourage children to care for animals.

The only minor issue I had with this book was the formatting on the digital book was a little off. I was still able to read the book and see all the pictures, so this did not take away from the story. Otherwise, this was a fun adventure story.

This book deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I found no editing errors. This book seems professionally edited. This is a cute story that children can enjoy and learn from. The formatting was not a big enough issue to deduct a star.

I recommend this book to children of all ages. This would also be a great story for teachers to share with their young students. Children that love cats would especially enjoy this story.
