Shadow's Adventure Home by Kathy Kovar is a tale of a lost cat finding his way back to his family. Shadow's family moves to a new house, and when Shadow finally ventures out to look around, he gets distracted by a bird. After chasing it outside, he finds himself lost and has to try to find his way home. The book is based on the true story of how the author's cat went missing for two years but eventually found his way home. This story was reminiscent of the movie Homeward Bound for me. It was a great story, and the pictures were excellent.

My favorite part of the book was the pictures. They fit the story stylistically as they appeared to have been done by a child. I could see them hanging on a refrigerator in someone's house. They worked very well with the plot of the story. I also particularly enjoyed the ending. Just when things look bleak for Shadow, he has a stroke of good luck.

There wasn't much to dislike in the book. If I had to pick one thing, it would be the inconsistency in text for each page. Some had a great deal of text, while others didn't. As a parent, pages with a lot of text can become difficult for the little ones to listen to and follow. I would've liked less text on each page and more pages (and illustrations) overall.

I would recommend this book to children of all ages. Some of the younger ones might need the text to be summarized a bit until they get a little older (too lengthy on some pages), but they would enjoy the illustrations. Cat lovers, in particular, would enjoy the adventures of this brave cat as he endeavors to find his way home.

I give Shadow's Adventure Home by Kathy Kovar 4 out of 4 stars. It is a delightful tale of a cat finding his way home. It was exceptionally well-edited. The child-like illustrations make this a beautiful read-aloud for all ages. I highly recommend it.
